A man is due to appear in court today charged with assault after the body of woman was discovered last night in a west Auckland house.
Waitakere police, who have launched a homicide inquiry, said the charge related to an alleged assault on officers who arrived at the Massey house.
They could not say whether further charges were likely.
Police received a call from the Colwill Rd property just before 7.30pm yesterday.
When officers arrived, they found a man at the door carrying a knife and they used pepper spray to disarm him.
The man is due to appear in Waitakere District Court today.
Police spokesman Jayson Rhodes said the woman's body would be removed from the scene this morning for a post-mortem examination.
He said the house had been cordoned and a further scene examination would take place today.
No further details were available about either the woman or the man.
