A man will appear in the Wanganui District Court today charged with assault after an argument with his grandmother last night.
Police were called to the Ratana address, about 25km south of Whanganui, at 10.30pm after the 19-year-old in possession of a .22 rifle was reportedly fighting with his grandmother, who is in her 60s.
There were other people in the house but it was not clear who they were, Whanganui police Sergeant Colin Wright said.
The man fled the house without the gun but had been brought back by a neighbour by the time police arrived.
His grandmother had a minor injury when the man kicked a door she was standing behind, Mr Wright said.
The man will face charges of assault, possession of cannabis seeds and illegal possession of ammunition.
