KEY POINTS:
Police have charged a man with assault after a woman was shot in the leg and a man suffered a knife wound during a struggle on Auckland's North Shore today.
Police said no-one else was being sought in relation to the incident, which took place in the suburb of Browns Bay.
Detective Sergeant Scott Armstrong said some media had described the incident as a "domestic" but there was no "sexual relationship" between the intruder and the other parties.
Mr Armstrong said a fire arm had been found at the scene and the woman would undergo surgery to the gunshot wound to her thigh at Auckland Hospital.
He said the man in custody had been charged with assault and was likely to face serious charges.
"He doesn't appear to have serious injuries. There was a struggle at the address between the two male parties and he may have minor injuries as a result of that," Mr Armstrong said.
He said the parties knew each other but he would not comment on what their relationship was.
Inspector Kerry Watson, from the police Northern Communications Centre, earlier said police were called to the house after reports of an intruder.
"On arrival police found two persons with injuries. A female suffered serious injuries to her leg. A male has minor injuries caused by a knife to his hand.
