Name suppression ended today for the prison inmate charged with this month taking a guard hostage at Auckland Prison at Paremoremo.
Jeremy William Mataira, 46, appeared in North Shore District Court yesterday for the second time since he allegedly held a prison guard hostage for nearly three hours on September 8.
The drama ended when armed police stormed a storage area and the woman was freed, shaken but unhurt.
Mataira's name suppression expired at 10am.
He originally faced one charge of kidnapping but yesterday additional sex and assault charges were laid.
He was due to appear in court again in November.
