A man has been charged with double murder after the bodies of two young women were found in Titahi Bay, Porirua, yesterday morning.
Police made the grisly discovery at a Morere Street house about 10am after a man with his hands covered in blood was seen running in circles outside the property.
A 28-year-old local man was arrested and charged overnight with two counts of murder and one of breaching a protection order, Detective Sergeant Shane Cotter of Porirua Police said.
He would appear in Porirua District Court this morning.
The names of the women have not yet been released.
The incident was being treated as a family violence homicide, Mr Potter said.
The bodies remained at the house overnight and post mortems would be carried out today.
A cordon around the house is expected to be lifted later today after forensic scientists complete their examinations.
