A man has been charged with breaching a suppression order after allegedly posting footage on YouTube of two men accused of assaulting cricketer Jesse Ryder.
The 28-year-old Christchurch man allegedly posted cellphone video footage to YouTube in breach of suppression orders issued by the court which prohibited the publication of the names or faces of the men charged over the assault.
He was interviewed by police this afternoon after he went to Christchurch central police station, police said.
He was charged with one count of breaching a suppression order and remanded on bail to appear in Christchurch District Court on Monday.
Detective Sergeant Ash Millen said police hoped the arrest would serve as a deterrent to other people who may have downloaded, accessed or distributed the video in question or were considering doing so.
