KEY POINTS:
A 46-year-old man was today remanded on bail after appearing in North Shore District Court on a charge connected with a hit and run.
The man appeared in court after an incident in which a woman hit by a vehicle was left critically injured on the side of a rural road north of Auckland.
The man, granted interim name suppression, was charged with failing to ascertain injury after an accident.
He entered no plea and was bailed to reappear on February 28.
Melissa Rowthorne, 41, of Matakana, near Warkworth north of Auckland, is in Auckland Hospital with a fractured vertebra and skull, and severe bruising over much of her body.
The mother-of-two lay undiscovered for seven hours after being knocked down about midnight on February 6.
She was walking just a few hundred metres from her home on Govan Wilson Rd.
At the time of the man's arrest police said further charges were likely.
