KEY POINTS:
A 19-year-old man has been charged over the accidental shooting of his friend at a farm near Palmerston North last month.
The victim, also 19, was shot in the head on a farm off Tennent Drive near Palmerston North on September 22.
Detective Dave Wishnowsky said today a 19-year-old had been arrested and charged with careless use of a firearm.
He was one of a group of eight men aged 19 to 22 who were hunting for rabbits and possums on the farm.
Police acknowledged the shooting was unintentional and alcohol was not a factor, Mr Wishnowsky said.
"The victim continues to make a remarkable recovery," he said.
He had been in Wellington Hospital but had since returned to Palmerston North Hospital where he was supported by friends, family and medical staff.
"Medical personnel have heaped praise on the young males for their actions following the shooting," Mr Wishnowsky said.
"They have stated that the medical attention given to the victim and their urgency in getting him to hospital undoubtedly saved his life."
