It was not a silent night in Bethlehem, but it could well have been a bit holy after a shotgun was fired during a domestic dispute in the suburb, on the outskirts of Tauranga.
As a result, a man - probably not a wise one - was due in the Tauranga District Court today charged with recklessly discharging a firearm.
Police went unto Bethlehem at 11.30pm after a woman reported her former partner was refusing to leave the property.
When police arrived the man had left, but soon after he called the woman from his own home.
During the call she heard what she believed to be the sound of a firearm discharging, Senior Sergeant Carl Purcell said.
Police found the 45-year-old man and recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, which had been fired out a window.
No one was hurt and no property was damaged, said Mr Purcell.
