Man charged after shooting death

A man has been charged with the murder of a 23-year-old woman shot at her home in Otaki Beach north of Wellington yesterday.

Emergency service found the woman - whose name has been suppresed by the Levin court - with gunshot injuries when they were called to her Ngaio St house at about 4.10pm yesterday.

She died at Wellington Hospital in the early hours of this morning.

A 26-year-old man from Otaki who had previously been charged and unlawful possession of a firearm has now been charged with the woman's murder.

Police are appealing to speak with anyone who was around Ngaio St before 4pm yesterday.
