A 41-year-old Wanganui man will appear in Wanganui District Court tomorrow on a number of charges following a police pursuit shortly before 8pm tonight.
The man failed to stop for a police patrol in Gonville suburb and proceeded to ram a patrol car several times during a 5-minute pursuit, Inspector Paul Jermy said.
"A second patrol car sent to assist the first was also rammed and was extensively damaged."
Mr Jermy said police managed to stop the driver in a residential street.
"However, he began to assault several officers who attempted to arrest him.
"A police dog was used to subdue the man at the scene."
The man was facing driving charges as well as charges of assaulting and resisting police, Mr Jermy said.
