A man was yesterday arrested and charged with manslaughter over the death of a 4-year-old girl in a quad bike accident.
The girl was riding a 300cc quad bike by herself when it rolled on farmland on August 30.
The man, 37, appeared in the Hawera District Court. He was given interim name suppression and bailed to reappear on September 20.
Detective Paul Davison, of Hawera, said the charge was made on the basis of the duty of people in control of dangerous things to provide care to avoid the danger.
There had been a long inquiry before the decision to charge the man was made.
