A 22-year-old man is facing numerous charges after allegedly falsely claiming he was raped in Picton yesterday.
The vineyard worker was found drunk at the Picton foreshore, after he called 111 about 10pm reporting the rape, Constable Michelle Stagg, of Blenheim police, told the Marlborough Express.
Police quickly realised it was a false claim, she said.
A search of the man turned up a knife and a cannabis pipe.
Ms Stagg said the man would appear in Blenheim District Court today charged with possession of a knife in a public place, breaching the liquor ban, possession of a cannabis pipe and misuse of a telephone.
