KEY POINTS:
A man appeared in Hastings District Court yesterday charged with attacking his mentally disabled son.
David Eugene Bristowe, 37, of Flaxmere, Hastings is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to his 21-year-old son Barney Wilson who received a broken jaw and bruising to his head.
Bristowe, who was his son's primary caregiver, was remanded in custody until reappearing in court tomorrow.
