KEY POINTS:
A person is being hunted by police after a woman died in a Christmas row which turned to tragedy.
The body of a 41-year-old woman was found in an Otara house in south Auckland today by family members.
She had serious injuries.
Police were speaking to people who were believed to be at the house when the woman died but said others, including the man they believed was the killer, were still being sought.
"We have been speaking to family members but we are but we are also looking for other people who were present at the time but who are not there now," said Detective Senior Sergeant Richard Middleton.
"There is no season of goodwill in this family," Mr Middleton said.
He would not release a description of the man but said they knew who he was and he was not considered dangerous.
A post mortem examination would be held tomorrow and Mr Middleton would not reveal details of the cause of death.
The woman's name would be released when relatives had been told.
He said the person police were looking for was likely to face serious charges but no one else would be charged.
