A Napier man was hospitalised with head injuries after he was attacked and robbed early this morning, police say.
The 38-year-old was walking along the Milton Road/Napier Terrace area of Napier Hill about 2.50am when the assault happened, Detective Emmet Lynch of Napier CIB said.
His grey jacket, black leather wallet and a set of keys were stolen.
The man was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital, and is now home recovering with family.
Due to the surprise nature of this attack and the injuries he suffered, the man was not able to describe the offender or offenders responsible, Mr Lynch said.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in the Milton Rd area at the time of the incident to contact them.
They would also like residents in the area to check their properties for any stolen items that could have been thrown away.
