KEY POINTS:
A man was beaten and robbed in front of his wife and child as he withdrew money from a Dunedin ATM on Sunday morning.
The 27-year-old man was using a cash machine outside a shop in suburban Caversham, when he was approached by two men about 9.45am.
One of the men asked for a lighter, then grabbed him, while the other took his money.
The robbers then took the man's car and drove away, leaving him with cuts and bruises.
Senior Sergeant Brian Benn said a weapon was used in the attack, but at this stage, they were not sure what it was.
The car was found a short distance from the scene of the robbery, and police are hunting for his attackers.
One of them was described as a 17-20-year-old Polynesian man, about 175cm tall, with short hair. The other was described as wearing a sleeveless blue denim jacket and jeans.
