A 59-year-old Whangaehu Valley man who is alleged to have held an axe as he assaulted a woman, threatening her with it, has appeared in court.
William Wallace O'Brien appeared before the registrar in Masterton District Court on Monday facing one charge of male assaults female and one charge of possession of a weapon, namely an axe, with intention to use it.
The charges related to an alleged domestic incident at Masterton on June 29.
Duty lawyer James Elliott said O'Brien was to lodge an application for legal aid and asked for a remand without plea.
O'Brien was remanded on bail without plea to reappear on January 29 when he is due to plead to the two charges.
