A bearded man has tried to bundle an 8-year-old child into his car in Ngaio, Wellington.
The attempted abduction happened on Monday and Wellington police are looking for man.
He is described as Caucasian, with a long white beard, bald and "old looking." He was driving a black car.
The child was walking up Awarua Street at 3.05pm when the black car pulled up beside the child. The driver then reached over and tried to pull the child into his car.
The child managed to wriggle free and ran towards Awarua Train station. The man left the car and followed the child on foot until he gave up at an overbridge, returned to his car and drove off.
