KEY POINTS:
A woman attacked her partner with a machete and then a fire poker early today, Gisborne police said.
The woman, 46, had allegedly swung the machete at her 48-year-old partner during a drunken dispute at their home, acting Senior Sergeant David Walker said.
The man managed to disarm her, suffering only a small cut to his hand.
She then returned with the fire poker which she used to hit him on the head.
The man was not badly hurt and did not require a stay in hospital, Mr Walker said.
The woman was taken into custody and would appear in court charged with injuring with intent to injure. Mr Walker said police would be asking for her to remain in custody.
