A man was attacked by with metal bars by two men who jumped from their car while the victim was waiting for a morning train, say police.
Police are appealing for any further witnesses to the 6.20am assault on Wednesday, which left the man with moderate injuries.
Senior sergeant Warwick Burr said after a dispute with the victim the night before, the two men in their 20s are alleged to have pulled up to the Solway train station in a Mazda 323 and set upon the victim with metal bars.
Mr Burr said he could not say exactly what type of weapon of used, but these are described as metal or iron bars, and were enough to cause moderate, but not life-threatening, injuries to the victim.
Two men were arrested for the assault on Wednesday, and were bailed to a Masterton address, but Mr Burr said the exact charges were to be established after further statements from witnesses.
