KEY POINTS:
A man was attacked and robbed yesterday in central Wellington.
Detective Sergeant Jason Perry said a 21-year-old man had walked past a man and a woman having an argument about 3am Saturday on the corner or Courtenay Place and Taranaki Street.
Another man was standing nearby.
The 21-year-old was grabbed, pushed against a fence and one of the men repeatedly punched him in the head.
His mobile phone, and cigarettes were taken from his pocket, Mr Perry said.
The other man then demanded the victim's watch, pushing him and taking it when he refused to hand it over.
A 26-year-old man had been arrested, Mr Perry said.
The arrested man would appear in Wellington District Court tomorrow, charged with aggravated robbery, Mr Perry said.
The other alleged offender was described as an average build Caucasian in his 20s. He was about 188cm tall, wearing a dark blue hoodie with the hood up.
Police were seeking witnesses.
