Wairarapa police are appealing for information following an aggravated robbery in Masterton early last night.
Detective Sergeant Rob Rackliff of the Wairarapa CIB said a man in his late teens or early twenties went to a house in Cameron Cresent about 5.40pm and demanded cash.
"The offender then assaulted a 50-year-old male occupant with a weapon, leaving him with minor injuries. The offender left the house with a small amount of cash and took off in the direction of Church Street."
Detective Sergeant Rackliff said it was a traumatic incident for the victim and his family who were home.
The offender is described as Maori or Polynesian, about 1.8 metres tall and of thin build. He was wearing blue jeans and a dark brown t-shirt with hi-top sneakers. He was clean-shaven, apart from a thin moustache and had short dark curly hair.
Police are appealing to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area about the same time or have any information in relation to the incident.
