A man is assisting police on the North Shore after armed officers were called to Lake Rd in Belmont near Devonport.
Social media users said there were armed officers outside McDonald's in Belmont and further down the road at New World in Devonport.
A police spokesman confirmed police had been called to an incident involving a "person acting suspiciously" around 4.50pm on Lake Rd.
He said the man is now assisting police with their inquiries.
