Police have launched a homicide inquiry after a man was killed following a serious assault tonight.
Invercargill Senior sergeant Bruce Bennn said police were called to an address on Dee Street at around 7:15pm.
The 28-year-old man was rushed to hospital but died at around 9pm.
The area has been cordoned off with the police investigation under way, including talking to a number of people who were in the area when the assault took place.
No charges have been laid yet, but police said they had someone in custody and were not looking for anyone else.
