KEY POINTS:
A 24-year-old man has been arrested following a shooting in the Coromandel Peninsula overnight.
Detective Sergeant Glenn Tinsley said the Whangamata man had been charged with assault with intent to rob after handing himself in to police today.
He will appear in Waihi District Court on March 25, when he is also expected to face firearms charges.
The arrest follows an incident in Whangamata overnight, believed to be a dispute among friends, in which a man was injured when two shots were fired from a shotgun.
Mr Tinsley said the victim's injuries were minor and he did not need hospital treatment.
An ambulance was called but it left when the crew was abused by one of the people at the dispute.
