KEY POINTS:
Police have arrested a man over the alleged kidnapping and beating of a man at gunpoint in February.
The man was attacked when he went to meet someone near Stokes Valley Rugby Club in George St, Lower Hutt, about 10pm on February 5.
He was kidnapped, dragged into a stolen car and left in a park area behind the Stokes Valley Fire Station before regaining consciousness and alerting police.
He required reconstructive surgery for multiple facial fractures.
Detective Sergeant Brendan Mears said the man arrested over the attack would appear in Lower Hutt District Court today.
He will face charges of aggravated robbery, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, kidnapping, using a firearm in the commission of a crime and arson.
Mr Mears said police would oppose bail and further arrests were possible.
"This investigation is now before the court. It would be inappropriate for me to speculate on a motive or comment further except to say that the attack was targeted at the victim," Detective Sergeant Mears said.
