Man arrested over Carterton stabbing

A Carterton woman is in a critical condition in Wellington Hospital after being stabbed in the chest yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Mark McHattie said the 26-year-old woman was stabbed early yesterday and was first taken to Wairarapa hospital and then to Wellington Hospital.

She underwent two operations and was later reported to be in a critical condition.

Mr McHattie said that a 24-year-old Carterton man had been arrested and charged with assault and drug-related offences and would appear in Masterton District Court today.

The charges would be "further evaluated at a later time".
