Man arrested over attempted kidnap

A man was due to appear in court today after being arrested over the attempted kidnapping of a woman at gunpoint in central Auckland yesterday, police said.

The incident was alleged to have happened as the victim, an Asian jewellery shop worker, was parking in a building near the corner of Symonds St and Karangahape Rd about 12.30pm.

The man was alleged to have ordered the woman into the boot of the car and tried to drive out of the carpark, but was prevented by the barrier arm and ran off.
