A man has appeared in court following an armed break-in at an Oamaru supermarket early this morning.
A 62-year-old appeared in Dunedin District Court today on one charge of aggravated burglary, three charges of presenting a firearm, one charge of using a firearm to prevent arrest and one charge of possession of an offensive weapon.
He was remanded in custody until Friday.
The Dunedin Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) was called to the supermarket after a man broke into the store with a firearm.
Staff were evacuated and State Highway 1 was closed for a time.
