Man arrested in Tauranga homicide

A man has been arrested after a woman was killed in Tauranga early this morning.

Police were called to a property in Graham Place, in suburban Bellevue, at 5.20am and found the 59-year-old woman dead.

A 27-year-old woman was also injured and is recovering in Tauranga Hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The name of the deceased woman will not be released until tomorrow, as next-of-kin are still to be notified.

Detective Inspector Tim Anderson said police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

As a result of inquiries, police have launched a homicide investigation.
