A Foxton man has appeared in the Rotorua District Court charged with 12 counts relating to two separate attacks on an elderly woman in Palmerston North.
The 38-year-old man is charged with eight counts relating to alleged offences on October 14, with the remaining offences alleged to have happened on January 5.
The man, who has interim name suppression, is charged that on October 14 he indecently assaulted the elderly woman, detained her without her consent to be confined, robbed her of her vehicle while armed with a knife and unlawfully used her bank card.
He is further charged that on January 5 he entered a residential house in Palmerston North with intent to commit a crime, raped an elderly woman, sexually violated her by unlawful sexual connection, attempted to sexually violate her, threatened to kill the woman, detained the woman without her consent to be confined, unlawfully used her bank card and robbed the woman of her vehicle, valued at $7000.
The man was arrested in Rotorua on January 9 and appeared in the Rotorua District Court on the same day.
