A man has been arrested after a gun shot prompted police to cordon off several Hastings streets this afternoon.
A local resident reported hearing the shot at a house in Nikau Street, in the Hastings suburb St Leonards, about 12.20pm, Inspector Dean Clifford of Hastings police said.
Police deployed the armed offenders squad (AOS) and cordoned off busy streets including Pakowhai Rd, Heretaunga St West and St Aubyn St West about 1pm. Residents were advised to stay indoors.
Police contained the armed man inside a Nikau St house and police negotiators talked to him, Mr Clifford said.
The 43-year-old man walked out of the house about 3.45pm and the AOS arrested him.
Police were investigating what charges the Napier man would face, Mr Clifford said.
