A man has been arrested following a serious assault which left a man fighting for his life in Auckland overnight.
The 30-year-old man was found lying unconscious in the street with what was initially thought to be stab wounds to the head, however police now say his injuries indicate he was hit over the head with a heavy object.
A 21-year-old man was arrested this morning and charged over the attack on Rollerson Street in Papakura, which is thought to have broken out during a fight over a house party.
Officers were called to the address around 8pm last night, after receiving reports of a group of people fighting with knives, sticks and rocks.
It is believed a brawl broke out between a group who were holding a party and people from a neighbouring address, Counties Manukau police said.
