A man has been arrested following reports of shots being fired outside a Fonterra factory in Northland.
Bullet holes were discovered in a shed and a tank on the dairy factory site at Kauri, north of Whangarei, on Monday morning. Later that day a member of the public reported hearing shot being fired from somewhere outside the factory grounds, police said.
A 52-year-old man was arrested after officers visited the site and carried out an investigation, police said.
He appeared in Whangarei District Court on Tuesday charged with unlawful possession of a military style rifle.
He was remanded in custody, and is due to appear again tomorrow, where police say he is likely to face further charges.
