A man has been arrested after a police officer was struck by a fleeing vehicle in the Far North last night.
The man was arrested by armed police at a Kohukohu property, 55km southeast of Kaitaia, about 9.30pm.
Police said they had been speaking to the man about a number of criminal and serious driving offences when he drove off.
An officer was struck by the car and suffered cuts to his knees and arms, police northern communications Inspector Lou Alofa said.
The man was seen carrying what appeared to be a bag with a firearms holster, and the armed offenders squad was called in to join the search as a precaution.
Police are investigating.
