A man wanted on a warrant to arrest was recognised by a member of the public on Marine Parade in Napier just after noon.
Police were called and patrols responded to the area although initial searches in the area failed to locate him.
However, a police media spokesperson said enquiries led them to an address in Milton Rd on Napier Hill where he was confronted and arrested about 30 minutes later.
It is understood a dog team was involved in the call-out.
Police said the person was arrested and taken into custody without any major incident.
They did not say what the outstanding warrant for arrest was for.
