A man has been arrested and will face firearms and driving charges after fleeing a police check point in south Waikato.
When police manning the stop at Arapuni, 32km north of Tokoroa, stopped a Mazda utility around 1.30pm they noticed three firearms and ammunition lying in the cab, Putaruru Sergeant in Charge Jason Shailer said.
The driver spoke briefly to police before he sped off.
Police used road spikes to stop the ute and found five firearms in the vehicle, one of which was loaded, and 222 rounds of ammunition.
A 38-year-old Cambridge man will appear in the Tokoroa District Court next week charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, reckless driving and failing to stop for police.
