Man arrested after fatal hit-and-run

Police have arrested a 35-year-old Timaru truck driver in relation to a fatal hit-and-run last month.

Thomas Alec Fry, 18, was killed when his motor cycle crashed north of Oamaru in the early hours of April 13.

Police said today that the arrested man faced charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice, careless driving causing death, failing to stop and ascertain injury after a crash, and failing to report a crash.

Detective Sergeant Mike Ryder of Oamaru said help from the public and the commercial trucking industry was appreciated and the matter was now before the court.
