The 26-year-old driving the victim's vehicle on Guy Avenue has been arrested for driving whilst disqualified.
Police inquiries led them to the victim of the attack and he was taken to Palmerston North Hospital.
The home invaders demanded money and the man's vehicle but before he could answer he was covered with bedclothes and hit with a weapon.
His face was injured and when he fell to the ground he was kicked and punched.
The invaders took a small amount of money and the man's white Chrysler Jeep.
