KEY POINTS:
A homicide investigation was launched today after the discovery of a man's body outside a Gore house last night.
Senior Sergeant Richard McPhail, of Gore, said police were called to an address in Main St at about 10.20pm, where a 42-year-old man was found dead.
The armed offenders squad later went another address in Hyde Street address in the town where a 43-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault.
He appeared in Invercargill District Court this morning and was remanded in custody to December 30.
Mr McPhail said 15 officers from Invercargill and Gore were working on the case and were seeking a white Ford Laser saloon near Main St last night.
The two addresses had been cordoned off while police and forensic scientists examined the scenes.
He said the cause of death was still being investigated and a post mortem was being carried out this afternoon.
The victim's name was being withheld for the moment.
