Armed police were sent to a home in Kuri Bush, 30km south of Dunedin, yesterday after a report of a man threatening someone with an axe.
Acting Senior Sergeant Chris George of Dunedin Police said four armed units were dispatched at 7.15pm and arrested an intoxicated 48-year-old man.
Police said an axe was found at the house and the man would likely be charged with possession of an offensive weapon and threatening to kill when he appeared in Dunedin District Court today.
A second man, who lived at the house, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.
