Police have arrested a 44-year-old man after a teenager was attacked with a weapon, possibly a tomahawk, in the Manawatu town of Foxton last night.
The victim, 18, is in Palmerston North Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. He has had surgery to his knee and is currently in a stable condition.
Police central districts communications manager Kim Perks said it appeared the armed offender confronted two men at house in Park St about 10.30pm.
One managed to get away unharmed but the other was struck with a weapon.
"There is some suggestion that the weapon was a tomahawk but that is currently unconfirmed," Ms Perks said.
The arrested man will appear at Levin District Court tomorrow charged with grievous bodily harm.
