Area Response Manager senior sergeant Peter Middlemiss said during this pursuit the driver crashed into a parked car on Norton Park Rd.
The crash did not stop the pursuit however, with the driver continuing to flee, throwing objects out of the window.
Police abandoned the pursuit when a firearm was pointed at one of their cars.
The situation came to an end when the fleeing car crashed into another parked car on Wyndrum Ave.
Police found a loaded homemade firearm inside the vehicle and arrested a 30-year-old man they had been looking for since October.
He is due to appear in the Hutt Valley District Court today on a number of charges.
Middlemiss said they had been actively searching for the man for two months.
"We are pleased to have arrested this man who was believed to be dangerous and wanted on a variety of serious charges.
"Fleeing driver incidents are incredibly dangerous for everyone involved and members of the public.
"This man is very lucky that in this instance there were no tragic consequences, which can happen if a driver chooses not to stop for Police."
The charges from this morning's pursuit include using a firearm
against a law enforcement officer, aggravated failing to stop and dangerous
driving.
The charges related to October's arrest warrant include aggravated failing to stop, dangerous driving, possession of ammunition, possession of an offensive weapon, and theft.
