A man was helicoptered to hospital with serious injuries after a road accident in the Bay of Plenty.
The 21-year-old was airlifted from Pongakawa, Western Bay of Plenty after he was found on the side of Maniatutu Rd with head injuries. Police were called to assist ambulance just before 1pm.
A BayTrust Rescue Helicopter spokesperson said he was stabilised by the onboard paramedic.
"Due to the time critical nature of his injuries he was airlifted back to Rotorua Hospital for further treatment."
Police are making inquiries to ascertain how the man came to be on the side of the road.
