A Timaru man admitted historical sex charges involving two girls on the day he was due to stand trial.
Freezing worker Gavin James Biggs, 55, pleaded guilty in the High Court at Timaru to 14 charges including rape, attempted rape, indecent assault, doing an indecent act and inducing a girl to do an indecent act, the Timaru Herald reported.
All but four of the charges were representative.
The offences involving the two girls, aged nine to 13, took place in various locations around South Canterbury over a four-year period in the early 1980s. At that time Biggs was aged between 26 and 29.
Justice Christine French remanded Biggs to a secure facility for a report to be prepared under the Criminal Proceedings (Mentally Impaired Persons) Act.
She ordered a pre-sentence report and asked for victim impact reports before sentencing on April 6.
