The man accused of killing veteran journalist Derek Round in Wanganui last year has pleaded guilty to murder.
Michael Umanui Werahiko appeared before the High Court at Wellington via videolink from the High Court at Wanganui today.
Speaking outside court, Crown prosecutor Lance Rowe confirmed Werahiko had pleaded guilty to murder. He will be sentenced on August 26.
Mr Round, 77, was found dead in the living room of his Campbell St home on May 17 last year.
Werahiko was arrested the next day and initially charged with disorderly behaviour and threatening to kill.
