An Auckland man has this morning admitted helping his chronically-ill wife to die.
Evan Mott pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the death of his wife Rosemary, who'd been diagnosed several years ago with an aggressive form of multiple sclerosis, a degenerative condition for which there is no cure.
The 55-year-old's health deteriorated rapidly and her husband is alleged to have agreed to help research suicide methods and assemble a kit with which she could kill herself.
Mott appeared this morning in the Auckland District Court where his lawyer Ron Mansfield indicated he would seek a discharge without conviction for his client.
Mr Mansfield said "considerable evidence" would be given at the sentence hearing to support the bid for his client to be discharged without conviction.
