KEY POINTS:
A man has pleaded guilty to sexually attacking an 88-year-old Taranaki woman in her home.
George Nicholls, 40, pleaded guilty to charges of burglary, sexual violation, three counts of attempted sexual violation, and robbery, when he appeared in New Plymouth District Court yesterday.
The police summary of facts, which was not read out in court but the judge made available to the news media, said Nicholls had broken into the woman's home during the afternoon on May 8.
He pushed the victim on to the couch, and at some stage dragged her back into the bedroom where the sexual offences occurred, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
He stole $80 from the woman's house before leaving.
When caught by police, Nicholls said he could not remember the attack because he was drunk, but later admitted to what he had done.
The woman received a bruised chest and ribs in the attack and spent six days in hospital.
Judge Allan Roberts remanded Nicholls in custody to reappear on October 31 for sentencing.
