A man was due to appear in court on an assault charge today following the death of a North Shore man last night.
The dead man, 64, had not been named but police said he died after an incident at a house in Castor Bay, just north of the Milford shopping centre.
A 41-year-old man, believed to be a neighbour, was due to appear in North Shore District Court today and police said they were not looking for a weapon or anyone else over the death.
Detective Sergeant Kim Libby said the man's name would be released when all his family had been told.
He said the man was found lying unconscious in a driveway. No weapons were being sought. The man was rushed to hospital but died a few hours later.
He said a post mortem examination on the dead man was due today and that could mean further charges.
"It is early days yet but it is possible," Mr Libby said. He would not comment on the dead man's injuries.
"We have spoken to a lot of people in the area but anyone who could help can contact the Takapuna CIB.
"We are not looking for anyone else but it is just anyone who may have witnessed as incident up there last night."
